Burial or Cremation

Your deceased family member may have stipulated their choice in their will, but whether this is the case or not, our staff are here to explain the choices and procedures for either chosen option. There is a high degree of personal preference and choice available and we will guide you through all of these alongside your family wishes, traditions and religious beliefs.

Hill Brothers Funeral Services

A funeral for a member of your family is the most difficult day of your life. Everything your family and friends ever thought about your loved one is expressed on that very important day. The thought of arranging a funeral is not something any of us would want to do and our experienced staff are aware of all the special needs involved in supporting those who have suffered the shock of a sudden death.

At Hill Brothers you will receive the highest, most efficient standard of service in the area, coupled with our expert understanding of how to cope with a very difficult day and how to work through the myriad of necessary funeral arrangements in Thirsk and Northallerton.

Our funeral directors will lend a very sympathetic ear to all of your wishes and ideas and help you plan exactly the type of funeral you want. We are extremely sensitive to and aware of different ethnic, religious and cultural backgrounds and we will ensure all of your wishes are respectfully carried out.

We will inform you of all the choices and funeral services available, all the forms to be filled in and liaise with the registrar. In addition we will provide a check list of practical tasks, legal requirements and procedures to be carried out after the death of a loved one.

Arranging Flowers, Tributes and Charitable Donations

This traditional tribute to your loved one is a very personal choice and we are here to help you liaise with our local florists to ensure you have the floral displays of your choosing.

From traditional casket sprays, posies, wreaths and crosses to more contemporary personalised hearts and cushions - you can select colours and themes you know your loved one would have preferred both for the ceremony itself and the ceremony venue. We can make arrangements for your beautiful flowers to be taken to your chosen resting place. We are also happy to arrange charitable donations for you.

Newspaper Notices

A bereavement is traditionally announced in the newspapers and we are here to help you with wording and placing of this and with the acknowledgements following the service.

Transportation and the Service

We are here to help you make all the choices for location and transport of your loved one and your family to and from the funeral and to the final resting place and family gathering afterwards if needed. We have elegant limousines and the truly memorable horse-drawn hearse for you to consider and we will go through all the costs of each choice.

Music, Hymns, Poems and Eulogies

Your funeral director will help you coordinate music choices, favourite songs and hymns and will offer suggestions on suitable eulogies and readings if there are no specific family wishes.

Funeral Costs

In all aspects of the funeral arrangements our staff will advise of costs, giving you a full written estimate, which will be given to the person responsible for organising the funeral.

Our account is divided into three separate parts, our charges, the disbursements, (fees we pay out on your behalf e.g. doctors fees, cemetery fees etc) and the chosen coffin or casket.
